How do I organize my feeds with categories?

Label your feeds with internal categories to filter and bulk-organize them in My Feeds. Categories aren't visible to listeners.

When you're running courses, lead magnets, memberships, and client feeds all from one account, your My Feeds dashboard can turn into a long scroll fast. Categories give you a way to label each feed so you can group, filter, and manage your whole library at a glance.

What You’ll Accomplish

By the end of this guide, you'll have:

✅ Assigned a category to any feed (from your dashboard or while creating it)

✅ Filtered your feeds down to one category in a click

✅ Updated the category on several feeds at once with bulk actions

This takes about 2 minutes, and your feed list will be easier to navigate every time you open it.

What is a Feed Category?

A category is an internal label you put on a feed (Course, Lead Magnet, Membership, and so on). It's there to help you organize your own dashboard.

Categories are private. They're not visible to your listeners and they don't appear publicly anywhere, so you can name and group things however makes sense for the way you work.

Once your feeds are labeled, questions like these become a one-click answer:

  • Which of my feeds are for active courses?

  • What's tied to a current launch?

  • Where are all my lead magnet feeds?

You'll find these categories to choose from:

  • None

  • Course

  • Membership

  • Public Podcast

  • Lead Magnet

  • 1:1 Service

  • Internal/Company

  • Personal

  • Audiobook

  • Event/Summit

  • Launch/Promotion

Step 1: Assign a Category to a Feed

The quickest way to categorize a feed is right from your My Feeds dashboard.

  1. Go to your My Feeds dashboard (app.helloaudio.fm/my-feeds)

  2. Find the feed you want to label

  3. In the Category column for that feed, click the dropdown (it reads None until you set one)

  4. Pick the category that fits

Your choice saves on the spot, so there's no separate save step. To remove a category later, open the same dropdown and choose None.

💡 Not sure which to pick? Choose the category that most closely matches how your audience would describe the topic, not necessarily how you describe your business. Think about what shelf it would sit on if it were a book.

Set a category while creating a feed

You can also set the category as you build a new feed, so it's organized from day one.

  1. Click Create New Feed and set up your feed as usual

  2. Scroll to the Category (Optional) field (you'll see the note "Internal field for organization, not visible publicly")

  3. Choose a category from the dropdown, or use Clear Category to leave it unset

  4. Finish creating your feed

Since this is the same internal label as the dashboard dropdown, you can always change it later from My Feeds.

Step 2: Filter Your Feeds by Category

Once your feeds are labeled, you can narrow the list to just what you're looking for.

  1. In the top right of your My Feeds dashboard, open the All Categories dropdown

  2. Select a single category (for example, Lead Magnet)

  3. Your list updates to show only feeds with that category

To go back to your full library, click Clear filters (next to the search box) or set the dropdown back to All Categories.

You can also combine this with the search box (Search title, internal title, or tags) to find a specific feed even faster.

Step 3: Update Categories in Bulk

If you want to label several feeds the same way at once, use the bulk action instead of changing them one by one.

  1. Use the checkboxes on the left of each feed row to select the feeds you want (check the box in the Feed header to select everything)

  2. A toolbar appears showing how many feeds you've selected, with an Update Category... button next to it

  3. Click Update Category...

  4. In the Update Category window, choose the category you want from the dropdown

  5. Click Update

All the feeds you selected get the new category at once. If you change your mind before applying, click Cancel in the window or Clear in the toolbar to deselect everything.

What Happens Next

With your feeds categorized, you can:

  • Filter your dashboard to one type of feed whenever you need to find something

  • Keep client feeds, internal feeds, and audience feeds visually grouped

  • Relabel feeds in seconds as projects and launches change

Your categories stay with your feeds, so the organization you set up today keeps working as your library grows.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

The category I picked didn't seem to save

Category changes from the dashboard dropdown save automatically, with no separate save button. If you don't see the update, refresh the page and check the Category column again.

I filtered by a category and now my feeds are missing

Your feeds aren't gone, the list is filtered. Click Clear filters next to the search box, or set the filter dropdown back to All Categories to see your full library again.

A public feed's category looks locked or different

Public feeds behave differently from private feeds here. The category is always "Public Podcast" for public feeds.

I don't see checkboxes for selecting multiple feeds

The checkboxes sit on the far left of each feed row, with a select-all box in the Feed column header. If the column looks cut off, widen your browser window or scroll left.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my listeners see the category I assign to a feed?

No. Categories are an internal organization field for your own dashboard. They aren't visible to listeners and don't appear publicly.

Do I have to assign a category to every feed?

No, categories are optional. Feeds stay set to None until you choose otherwise, and you can leave any feed uncategorized.

Can I assign more than one category to a single feed?

Each feed carries one category at a time. To change it, open the dropdown and pick a different one (or None to clear it).

Can I change a feed's category after it's created?

Yes, anytime. Update it from the Category column on your My Feeds dashboard, individually or in bulk.

What's the fastest way to recategorize a batch of feeds?

Select them with the checkboxes, click Update Category..., choose the new category, and click Update. They all change at once.
