How do I get started with Hello Audio? (Quick Start Guide)

New to Hello Audio? Get one test feed live and playing in your own podcast app in about 15 minutes, then decide what to launch for real.

What do I need to know to set up Hello Audio?

You're about to get one feed live so you can see how Hello Audio actually works. Treat this first one as a test (not your big launch), it's only here to show you the ropes. When you're ready to launch something real, we'll point you there at the end!

What You'll Accomplish

By the end of this guide, you'll have:

✅ Created your first feed

✅ Dropped in a file and watched it become an episode

✅ Subscribed on your own phone and heard it play

That's the whole loop, usually under 15 minutes. Once you've felt how it works, launching one for real is super easy!

👀 New to Hello Audio? Start with the checklist.

The first time you log in, our Let's get set up checklist opens on its own and guides you through getting your first feed live, step by step (about 8 minutes).

Closed it before you finished? It's not gone. Open the help widget in the bottom-right corner, tap Home, and pick it back up under "Let's get set up."

Not sure what to put in your first feed?

Totally normal, and it's the thing most people get stuck on. So don't overthink it.

Your first feed doesn't have to be a real one yet. Grab something already sitting on your computer and make a test feed just to see how Hello Audio works: a course video, a client call, a workshop replay, anything you've already got. Push it through the steps below and watch it land in a real podcast app.

That's the whole goal here, to feel how fast and easy it is.

Step 1: Create Your Feed

Log in at app.helloaudio.fm. If it's your first time logging in, you'll be met with two choices: Public or Private. Choose Private.

If you don't see that option right away, click Create New Feed at the top. You'll see that choice after that click.

Give your new feed a title, author, and short description (you can change all of these later).

Choose Your Feed Type

For the feed type, choose Instant for now. It makes every episode available right away, which is all you need to see how this works. (Curious about the other types? See What are the different feed types?)

Add Your Cover Image

Your cover image is what listeners see in their podcast app, but you don't need final artwork to get started.

We handled this for you! Click "Don't have an image, Use one of ours!" and pick from four pre-made covers. You can change your cover image anytime from Feed Details, so it doesn't need to be perfect to launch.

(For the full walkthrough, including how to replace a preset later, see How to use Hello Audio's preset images for your podcast feed.)

Step 2: Upload Your Content

Drag any file into the upload area. Your video automatically becomes audio (no extra steps), and each file becomes an episode. For a test, one file is plenty.

Supported formats include: mp3, m4a, mp4, m4v, mov, avi, and wav. (Getting real files ready for your audience? See How do I prepare my files before uploading?)

Step 3: Add Your Listeners

For a test feed, you're the only listener. In the Listeners section, add your own email (we actually auto complete this for you if you're on trial). You'll get an invitation with your private link.

(When you launch for real, this is where everyone else goes, see How do I add listeners to my feed?)

Step 4: Listen

Open the invitation, tap your link, and subscribe in whatever podcast app you use. Your feed shows up like any other podcast, and your file plays as audio. That's it, you've built a working feed!

You just did exactly what your real audience will do to subscribe. When you launch for real, the Listener Hub has those same steps for every app, so helping people get subscribed is easy.

(For the full walkthrough and best practices, see How do I get my listeners to subscribe to my private podcast?)

Ready to launch one for real?

That test feed just turned screen-time content into something you could finish on a walk. When you're ready to do it for real, with your audience or paying customers, the next question is what to launch first. Don't worry, we'll help you decide: read Which feed should I launch first?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add more episodes after people have subscribed?

Absolutely. New episodes automatically appear in subscribers' podcast apps. This is perfect for ongoing courses or regular content updates.

What happens if I need to remove someone's access?

For individual listeners, flip their switch to "off" in the listener management area. Their link will stop working immediately.

Can I see who's listening to my content?

Yes, as long as you didn't use the universal link. The analytics section shows you listener activity, completion rates, and engagement metrics to help you understand how your content is performing.

Do I need to know anything technical to set this up?

Not at all. If you can drag and drop files and send emails, you can create a private podcast. Most people have their first feed running in under 30 minutes.

Can I automate adding listeners from my email list or course platform?

Yes. Using Zapier, you can automatically add people to your feeds when they join your email list, purchase a course, or complete other actions in your business.

Why won't my files upload?

Check that your files are in a supported format (mp3, m4a, mp4, m4v, mov, avi, wav). Large files may take a few minutes to process, especially videos that need conversion.

Why are my episodes in the wrong order?

For Instant feeds, drag them to reorder. For Date-Based feeds, click on each episode and adjust the scheduled date.

Why aren't my listeners receiving their invitation emails?

Check that the email addresses are spelled correctly and ask them to look in their spam folder. You can resend invitations anytime from the listener management area.

Why aren't my changes showing up in the podcast app?

Podcast apps cache feed information. Refresh by dragging down on the episode list, or try closing and reopening the app.
